He graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Virginia Tech in 1984, and after graduation he completed a one-year Internship and then a two-year Residency in Dermatology at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He became Board-Certified in Dermatology in 1987 (one of 43 at the time) and remained on staff at Cornell University for a year, but ultimately made the decision to move back to Maryland where he opened the Veterinary Dermatology Center in Baltimore in 1988. He is a member of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, and the Greater Baltimore Veterinary Medical Association. He has published numerous scientific papers relating to dermatology and several book chapters. He is currently one of approximately 200 board-certified dermatologists recognized by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Buerger is an avid triathlete, road racer, and marathoner, and he is a veteran of hundreds of races. His free time is spent hiking, biking, running, and swimming, and he enjoys landscape photography. |
