Thank you for allowing me to be of service. After 38 years as a veterinarian and 34 years at the Veterinary Dermatology Center of Maryland I will be retiring in April 2022 when the lease for my office space expires. In mid-2020 my building (and the Emergency Veterinary Clinic next door) was purchased by a corporation called PathwayVets, and I suspect they have plans for my office space. Another dermatologist could possibly take over my practice, but this is not certain. With my retirement and if there's not another dermatologist to take over the practice it's possible that the Veterinary Dermatology Center will close in 2022. This has been a difficult decision, but it seems the right time for me to retire.
I will continue to see patients and continue to refill meds and allergy immunotherapy vaccines until April 2022.
If your pet is receiving allergy immunotherapy it is likely prepared by an outside laboratory, and after April 2022 your primary veterinarian or another dermatologist should be able to take over refills if the office closes. Some patients receive an allergy vaccine that has been prepared in my office, and we'll be transitioning refills for those patients to the same outside lab. Note that the box that holds the new immunotherapy vials will have a label that lists the ingredients. Please save this information. If your primary veterinarian or another dermatologist takes over the refills they will need this information.
I will miss seeing happy dogs and cats and wagging tails. I will miss my amazing team: Laura's been with me for 23 years Trish for 16 years Tara for 14 years Heather for 3 years and Erin for 1 year. They are compassionate, knowledgeable, devoted, focused, and they make the lives of pets better. They have helped me so much over the years, and knowing them has enriched my life. I will also miss the many devoted pet parents I have known over the years. It will be difficult to say good-bye, but it's time.
Thank you. I hope you have a great day.
